What gets stored in your browser when you visit Toolgin, who puts it there, and how to get rid of it.

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and then send back on later requests. Cookies can be genuinely useful — remembering a setting, keeping you signed in — and they can also be used to follow you between sites to build an advertising profile. This page separates the two.
Cookies set by Toolgin
Toolgin sets no cookies of its own. There is no login, no session, no shopping basket and no visitor identifier written by this site's own code.
Two Google scripts do set cookies under the toolgin.com name, which makes them first-party cookies even though Google, not us, decides what goes in them. They are covered under Analytics cookies and Advertising cookies below.
Analytics cookies
Toolgin uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and page views. It is how we know which tools are used enough to be worth improving, and which pages are broken. It sets the following:

Analytics sees the address of the page you opened, where you came from, and general device information. It does not see anything you type into a tool, and Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. You can opt out everywhere at once with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Local storage used by the tools
Some tools remember a preference so that you do not have to set it again on your next visit — an output format, a separator character, a toggle you flipped. This is stored using your browser's local storage rather than a cookie, which means two things worth knowing:
- It is never attached to a network request. Unlike a cookie, local storage is not sent to any server automatically, so it cannot be used to track you.
- It stays on the device you set it on. A preference saved on your laptop does not follow you to your phone.
Keys are namespaced per tool so that they are easy to identify if you inspect them, and so that one tool can never read or overwrite another tool's settings. You can clear them at any time by clearing site data for toolgin.com in your browser settings. Nothing breaks when you do — the tool simply returns to its defaults.
Consent
Where the law requires your consent before advertising and analytics cookies can be set — currently the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland — Google shows a consent dialog on your first visit and records your answer. The choice you make there is what determines whether the cookies described below are set at all, and you can reopen it at any time to change your mind.
Outside those regions the cookies below are set when the page loads. The browser controls and opt-out links further down this page work everywhere, regardless of which region you are in.
Advertising cookies
Toolgin is free and is funded by advertising. Advertising on this site is served by Google through the AdSense programme, and possibly by other third-party advertising vendors. These vendors, not us, set cookies in your browser.
Those cookies are typically used to:
- Select which advertisement to show you, including based on previous browsing.
- Limit the number of times you are shown the same advertisement.
- Measure whether an advertisement was seen or clicked.
- Detect and block fraudulent or automated ad clicks.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
How to turn off personalised advertising
- Opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of many third-party advertising vendors at once at aboutads.info/choices.
- In Europe, use youronlinechoices.eu.
Opting out does not remove advertising from the site — it changes how ads are chosen. You will still see ads, but they will generally be based on the page you are reading rather than on a profile of your browsing history.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you view stored cookies, delete them, and block them either entirely or per site. The relevant settings are usually found under Privacy, Security or Site Settings, and most browsers also offer a private or incognito mode that discards everything when the window closes.
Blocking all cookies for toolgin.com will not stop the tools from working. The tools do not depend on cookies at all. It may affect which advertisements are shown and how their performance is measured.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. There is still no agreed industry standard for how sites should respond to it, so Toolgin does not change its behaviour based on that signal. Since we do not track you in the first place, the browser controls and opt-out links above are the effective route for the advertising cookies that third parties set.
