Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Toolgin collects when you use toolgin.com, why it is collected, and what control you have over it. It applies to this website only.

The short version

• Anything you type or paste into a tool stays on your device. It is never sent to us, and we could not read it even if we wanted to.
• There is no account system, so there is no profile to build.
• The site is funded by advertising, and advertising partners set cookies in your browser. That is the main way any third party learns anything about your visit.
• The contact form is the only feature that deliberately transmits information you have typed, and only when you press send.

The rest of this page is the detail behind those four points.

What happens to what you paste

Every tool on Toolgin runs entirely inside your browser. When you paste text into a counter, a converter or a formatter, the work is done by code executing on your own computer or phone. The content is held in your device's memory for as long as the page is open and is discarded when you close or reload the tab.

We do not receive it, store it or log it, because the tools have no server-side component to send it to.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly

If you use the contact form, you provide your name, your email address, a subject category and your message. We use these only to read and reply to what you sent. We do not add your address to a mailing list, and we do not pass it to anyone for marketing.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, Toolgin is delivered by a hosting provider that records standard server request data. This typically includes your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring page. This information is generated by the act of requesting a page and is used for delivering the site, diagnosing faults, and detecting abuse such as automated scraping or denial-of-service attempts.

Toolgin uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools people use and which pages are slow or broken. It records the page you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, the type of device and browser, and how you arrived. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<id> to tell one visit from the next. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses.

What it never receives is anything you type into a tool. Analytics measures which page you opened, not what you did on it. The two are handled by completely separate code, and the tools make no network requests at all.

You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site you visit by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking the script with a content blocker. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.

Information we never collect

• The content you enter into any tool.
• Files you open with a tool that reads files locally.
• Payment details — nothing on this site is paid for.
• Passwords or credentials — there is no account, so there is nothing to sign in to.

Cookies and local storage

Toolgin itself does not set cookies to identify or track you. Some tools may use your browser's local storage to remember a preference between visits — for example a chosen output format or a toggle position. That data is written under a clearly namespaced key, stays in your browser, is never transmitted, and can be cleared at any time through your browser's settings for site data.

Cookies set by advertising partners are a separate matter, covered in the next section and in more depth in our Cookie Policy.

Advertising and Google AdSense

Toolgin is free to use and is supported by advertising. Advertising on this site is served by Google, using the Google AdSense programme, and potentially by other third-party advertising vendors.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices, or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.

Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove advertising from the site. It means the ads you see are selected without using a profile built from your browsing, and are generally based only on the content of the page you are reading.

Advertising partners operate under their own privacy policies, not this one. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Third-party services we use

• Google AdSense — serves the advertising that funds the site, and sets cookies in your browser as described above.
• Google Analytics 4 — counts visits and page views so we know which tools are worth improving. It receives the page address, referrer and general device information, and never receives tool input.
• Web3Forms — receives and delivers submissions from the contact form. It processes the name, email address and message you entered so that the message can reach us. It is used only when you press send.
• Our hosting provider — stores and delivers the site's files and records the standard server request data described above.

No tool on this site sends your input to any of these services, or to any other service.

Legal basis for processing

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR require us to name a legal basis for handling personal data:

• Legitimate interests — for server logs used to deliver the site securely and diagnose faults, and for reading and answering messages you choose to send us.
• Consent — for non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies, where consent is required in your jurisdiction. Consent can be withdrawn at any time through your browser settings and the opt-out links above.

How long data is kept

• Tool input — not kept at all; it exists only in your browser's memory while the page is open.
• Contact messages — kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and to keep a record of bug reports, then deleted.
• Server logs — retained for a short period by our hosting provider, in line with their standard retention schedule, and then rotated out.
• Advertising cookies — retained for the period set by the vendor that placed them; see their policies and your browser's cookie settings.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is a message you sent us through the contact form.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the EEA, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. The use of advertising cookies described above may be treated as sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law, and the opt-out links in that section are how you exercise that choice.

To make any request, use the contact form and describe what you want. We may need to ask a question or two to locate the right message.

Children's privacy

Toolgin is a general-purpose utility site and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the age of digital consent in their country where that age is higher. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, please get in touch and it will be deleted.

International data transfers

The service providers named above operate internationally, which means data such as a contact form submission or a server log entry may be processed on servers outside your own country, including in the United States. Those providers rely on their own safeguards for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Keeping tool processing on your device is itself a security measure: data that is never transmitted cannot be intercepted in transit or exposed by a breach of our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security for information you choose to send us.

Links to other websites

This site links to external pages, including documentation, opt-out tools and reference material. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. Advertisements also link to third-party sites that we do not operate or control. We would encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you arrive at from here.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated when the site changes in a way that affects it — for example if an analytics tool is added or an advertising partner changes. The date at the top of the page always reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged on the site rather than made quietly.
